A lot of things I heard about getting married did not excite me – dress shopping and 6 a.m. boot camp and seating charts. But one thing I didn’t know is how much whiskey people give you. If I had know that marriage = whiskey, I would have done it sooner and more often. Not everyone likes their whiskey straight. But few can resist it when mixed with chocolate, coffee and cream. So when looking for a way to share my favorite spirit with coworkers and neighbors this holiday season, Irish cream seemed the way to go. It's good in coffee, over ice cream, or with a couple of ice cubes. My favorite is a shot of it topped with a layer of cream on top. The Irish cream goes in the glass first, then turn a spoon scoop side down over the top of the glass and pour the cream over it, so it settles as a nice layer on top. Having a whiskey blog led to a nice trend this holiday season - whiskey-inspired gifts. I guess in a way, a whiskey blog could be considered a wish list - not only for the whiskey itself, but also for whiskey accessories (yes - they exist!). One couple searched my blog to figure out which bottle of Scotch to give me and decided on a Lagavulin 16-year. Well-played. My mom sent me a pair of tasting glasses from the Washington distillery we visited as a stocking stuffer. Those have already been put to good use with the Lagavulin. |
